What is the Chester Beatty Library?
The library houses a collection of artefacts donated to the nation by Chester Beatty, a successful American mining consultant who became an honorary Irish citizen in 1957. In addition to his mining success Beatty loved to collect artefacts from Asia and the Far East. Following his death, he bequeathed his collection to trust for public benefit. The library includes manuscripts, icons, prints, miniature paintings, early printed objects d’art from various countries across Asia, the Middle East, North Africa and Europe. A visit to this wonderful museum offers a window on the artistic treasures of the great cultures and religions of the world.
